| Heating technology has advanced considerably, and floor heating is now much more affordable and an efficient way of heating homes. Installing floor heating opens up a whole range of possibilities for homeowners, revolutionising interior design and creating a comfortable, gentle and even heat.
There are four types of floor heating systems available
Solid Floor
Polyplumb floor heating can be permanently built into solid concrete or screeded floors. The heating pipe is simply slotted in and then permanently covered by the screed. Suitable for all floor coverings.
Suspended Floor
Polypipe under floor central heating can be installed in suspended flooring in a number of ways. Pipe can be laid along the joists using double heat spreader plates or across joists on battens using single heat spreader plates. Alternatively, 'pipe only' systems, without heat spreader plates, can be used where heat outputs are less critical, e.g. bedrooms.
Floating Floor
Polypipe under floor central heating can be installed in floating floors. Polypipe's unique polybutylene pipe is simply pressed in to the preformed heat spreader plate, which sits in grooves within the floating floor insulation panel. The floating floor system is then covered with 18mm chipboard sheeting. Polypipe floating floor system is suitable for all floor coverings.
Overlay™
Overlay™ allows floor heating to be installed into existing spaces quickly, easily and practically. The unique Overlay™ floor heating system is a patented low profile panel system, which is laid over existing solid or timber floors. Polypipe's flexible polybutylene pipe is the slotted in to the pre-formed grooves. Tiles and laminate can be laid directly onto the system. Carpet and Vinyl require a capping layer of 4-6mm plywood.
